The List
7 More Manga for Monster Girl Lovers
by Lynzee Loveridge,

Back in 2015, monster girls were all the rage thanks to Killing Bites, which stars a honey-badger-girl and other fanservicey fighting animal hybrids. While monster girl anime still aren't super-common yet, there's no shortage of manga to whet fans' appetites, and publishers seem more than happy to release more slithering, creeping, and crawling girls into the wild.
The Demon Who Became My Sister Demons are usually classified separately from monster girls, since there's enough of them to fill their own category. The female lead of The Demon Who Became My Sister is less anime demon and more the standard underworld type complete with horns, which is why I'm including this series on the list. The manga's subtitle is "H.P. Lovecraft fans that this "demon" is really the eldritch abomination Shub-Niggurath. She becomes the sister of the series' protagonist, who encounters her while wandering around the woods as orphans are wont to do. The two begin living together and for reasons still unexplained, she doesn't devour his soul.
My Monster Girl's Too Cool for You The setting reimagines Japan as a place where yokai and humans coexist and even go to school together. Human Atsushi develops a crush on a yuki-onna named Muku. Those familiar with legends will that yuki-onna are typically beautiful, but like sirens, they're mostly interested in leading men to their deaths. Muku has an icy demeanor and initially rejects Atsushi's affections because they literally make her melt. The cast also expands to include other yokai types, but the romance is clearly fixated on the main couple for those seeking a more harem-like approach.
Kyoto Animation's anime adaptation of this series back in January, you should definitely check it out. Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid is a little bit rom-com and a little bit family drama but a whole lotta heart. Our titular maid, Tohru, takes up residence with programmer Kobayashi after the two have a haphazard encounter in the mountains that only one of them actually re. Kobayashi isn't a fan at first, but her resistance grows to indifference and then to acceptance and affection as the couple, and later dragon additions to the crew including a child named Kanna, learn the importance of making a family.
Oh, My Sweet Alien! This romantic comedy is completely domestic, in that the lead character is actually married to the monster girl of his dreams. Nobuo is a salaryman with a wife at home. What everyone else doesn't know is that the wife they've all met is a disguise. He's actually happily married to an alien with tendrils for hair and laser beam-powered eyes. Her scaly skin is a purplish hue, and their baby hatched from a giant egg that took over most the apartment. Oh, My Sweet Alien! is a little more raunchy than sweet, but it definitely commits to its premise.
My Girlfriend Is a T-Rex What if dinos didn't go extinct, they just evolved into anthro-lizard people? My Girlfriend Is a T-Rex takes place in such a world, which should at first glance seem horrifying. It conjures images of a world where humans with lizard tails and clawed hands rip regular humans limb from limb. Instead, regular guy Yūma lands himself a T-Rex girlfriend who has a huge carnivorous appetite, but just for regular food. Churio lacks much common sense or human instincts, which is the premise for most of the manga's comedy. She's kind of dog-like in that well-meaning "puts everything in her mouth while wagging her tail" way. The story is set up as a four- comic, so this is a manga to flip through for laughs, enjoying its tongue-in-cheek silliness as it plays with the entire monster girl genre.
Coolkyoushinja employs a fair amount of gross-out humor and doesn't shy away from some of the more lurid parts of yokai legends, like the fox spirit's sexual appetite.
Yokai Girls This manga is closer in content and tone to Monster Musume for fans looking for both an older protagonist and sexier content. College graduate Yakki has never hit it off with women, becoming increasingly conscious of the fact that he's still a virgin at age 20. When he meets Rokka, things start to look up, but she comes down with a mysterious illness during their first date. Yakki quickly discovers that even he wasn't even able to foresee the true nature of her anemia-esque sickness, and she'll need his "surprise energy" to stay healthy.
