"Following the battle with the Witch Cult, Subaru has discovered that, to his utter horror, Rem is in a coma and everyone barring him has forgotten her existence - a horror exacerbated by the realisation that even his ability to 'Return by Death' is unable to rectify the situation. In a desperate search for a resolution to this state of affair, Subaru follows a lead which leads him to the Sanctuary - the residence of Echidna, the Witch of Greed, and the home to a trio of harrowing trials that will test both him and Emilia like nothing they have experienced before."

HIDIVE has described the story:
"Some people just aren't suited to playing the part of the flashy, in-your-face hero or the dastardly, mustache-twirling villain with larger-than-life panache. Instead, they operate in the shadows and pull the strings of society through wit and cleverness. That's the role Cid wants to play when he's transported to another world. Cid spins a yarn or three and becomes the unlikely leader of the underground Shadow Garden organization that fights against a menacing cult (which he totally made up). However, there's a catch even his wild imagination didn't see coming: the cult he concocted actually exists, and they're beyond displeased that his power fantasy just got in the way of their evil plans."
Kenichiro Suehiro composed the music.

"In 2030, Japan. A virus has infected humans throughout the world. Infected people turn into different forms of monsters based on their ages, sexes and races. The virus is named 'Gibia' - after being rich in variety like gibier. Just then, a pair of samurai and ninja appeared in such a blighted wasteland of Japan. They both traveled from the early Edo period, fighting together with help from a doctor who tries to find cure for Gibia. Facing ceaseless attacks from Gibia, and outlaws that attack travelers for food, they start the dangerous journey with enemies all around."
